Raleigh ranked #5 on list of best cities for first-time homebuyers…

Raleigh ranked No. 5 as the best city for first-time homebuyers out of large cities in the United States – and No. 27 overall out of 300 U.S. cities, according to WalletHub research. The city also ranked No. 28 overall for housing affordability, No. 58 for real estate market and No. 50 for living environment.

The rankings for the best and worst markets for first-time homebuyers were assigned using metrics such as housing costs, real estate taxes and property crime rates.

Other Triangle-area markets’ ratings for first-time homebuyers:
  • Cary: No. 43 overall, No. 21 among small cities
  • Durham: No. 67 overall, No. 21 among medium-sized cities
  • Fayetteville: No. 103 overall, No. 33 among medium-sized cities

  • Charlotte: No. 60 overall, No. 18 among large cities
  • Winston-Salem: No. 74 overall, No. 23 among medium-sized cities
  • Greensboro: No. 107 overall, No. 36 among medium-sized cities

  • Wilmington: No. 202 overall, No. 87 among small cities
  • Overland Park, Kansas, ranked No. 1 overall; Compton, California, ranked No. 300.
